Friday 8/2210:00 PMWhile Jim hits golf balls on the frozen tundra, I remain in camp making myself a little drinkie-drinkie. So much for my Marlin Perkins imitation. Jim appears to be having an excellent adventure in the Northwest Teeitories. I wish I'd had the opportunity to tag along. Jim's always been more of the world traveler than I. My adventures are more limited to rolling canoes, running Class III rapids backwards and exploring the western reaches of North Carolina where the banjo riff from Deliverence floats on the evening breeze. That's probably as it should be. Throughout the history of America, it was the eldest son who inherited the farm while those next in line struck out to find their own way. The frontiers of this nation were explored and conquerd by the younger sons and, like all good Scots-Irish, Jim is gangin' on. Tuesday 8/1811:00 PMJim sent 5 dispatches in one e-mail today. I spent the evening at my mother-in-law's showing my 7 year old niece how to drill holes in bench slats. Not the most efficient way to do it but a lot of fun. We got back around 10:00 PM & could not log on to Vomit . . . er, I mean Comet.net (a now - mercifully - defunct ISP) until 10:35. I worked up two dispatches and will do the rest tomorrow evening. Early. Friday 8/14Hi! I'm Jim's older brother. Some of you may notice a few changes on this page -- like the sudden appearance of an entry for August 10th. I had been posting the dispatches with the date Jim e-mailed them to me. Suddenly, on Aug. 12, Jim started putting dates on his dispatches. This meant that I had to shuffle things around a wee bit. Hopefully, he'll be consistant in the future. The dispatches for the 12th, 13th & 14th were e-mailed this morning. For those of you considering working in HTML, avoid Hotdog Pro 4.0!!! Hotdog 2.x was a pretty good product with only a few funky problems. Hotdog 3.0 was as stable as a hog on ice. There were some nice features but crashing in the middle of your (unsaved) work was not one of them. Hotdog 4.0 was released early this month and if ver. 3.0 had fleas, this version howls at the moon. It's even less stable than 3.0 and noticably slower if you've got more than one or two documents open. On top of that, some of the nice features in 3.0 are gone. They've added a few nice things but I don't think they're worth it. Why am I continuing to stay with 4.0? So I can collect enough evidence to vent my righteous indignation on some Aussie programmers! My reccomendation: Homesite 2.5 is a basic but good HTML editor. |
